My transition to a MAMIL (middle-aged man in lycra) began on an indoor rider during the 2020 lockdown. Exercise has always been a huge part of my life and with the world on hold, I turned to riding in an attempt to keep my fitness levels up and also to help rehabilitate some old footy injuries. Before long, I found myself on a road bike tackling hills, mountains and highways alongside my good mate David Preston (aka Lou Rubino) with the odd coffee and South Melbourne Market dim sim thrown in for good measure. I figured that all the kms in my legs must surely be able to contribute to a greater cause so when my wife, Sonja, suggested the Live for Lily Foundation, it was a no brainer. This will be my first ‘Ride for Lily’ and I will once again be riding alongside David, this time in memory of his beautiful boy, Alexander Michael Preston, who lost his battle with cancer in 2009. With 100% of the proceeds going towards the Zero Childhood Cancer program, Sonja and I have decided to match, dollar for dollar, all of the donations from my sponsors. Thank you very much for supporting me on this pursuit and more importantly, for helping this life changing cause.
